If you didn't already know, I'm a real “choco addict”. I've needed my daily dose of chocolate since…always! It goes without saying that brownies are a huge source of pleasure for me.
🌎 A Dessert Loved Around the World
Brownies are a classic American dessert and they are enjoyed in many countries around the world. There are many variations of recipes today, with additions and modifications according to local tastes and culinary traditions.
🕰 A Rich History
Brownies have been around since around the turn of the 20th century. The exact origin of brownies is unclear, but it is widely believed that they were invented in the United States.
🫘 Healthy and Tasty Brownies
I love the idea of adding beans to a brownie recipe to add fiber, protein, and minerals like iron, magnesium, zinc, and potassium. I was looking for a brownie recipe that would include beans, maple sugar , and cashews and couldn't find any I liked on the web. So I decided to develop my own brownie recipe.
🔄 Substitutions and Variations
I love giving you options, product substitutions in a recipe. You will find several in this one, including vegan ingredients. Personally, I like the whole-wheat and all-purpose flour mix, but you can choose either, or use other flours to your liking.
👦👧 A Perfect Snack for Kids
If your kids love chocolate, this is a nutritious and energizing snack! All you have to do is omit the nuts to slip them into the school lunch box.
Go have a good meal! I wish you a chocolate day 🍫🤎

📋 Ingredients:
- 1 can of kidney beans (400 g) OR 1 can of black beans (400 g)
- 1/2 cup melted butter OR melted margarine OR vegetable oil (like coconut oil)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup of animal milk OR vegetable milk (of your choice)
- 1 cup flour of your choice (I use half whole wheat, half all purpose)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup maple sugar
- 2 eggs OR 2 tbsp ground flax seeds mixed with 6 tbsp water (flax egg)
- 1/2 cup crushed cashews OR other nuts of your choice
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate drops
🥣 Instructions:
-
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a 20 cm (8 inch) square pan and line it with parchment paper.
-
Rinse and drain the beans. Place them in a blender or food processor, add the melted butter, milk and maple syrup and blend until smooth.
-
In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients then add the bean purée and the eggs. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface with a spatula.
-
Bake in preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out slightly moist. Do not overbake to avoid having brownies that are too dry.
-
Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan.
-
Once cooled, cut the brownies into squares and serve. You can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days.
Enjoy these delicious brownies with a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy a chocolate moment. 🍫🤎
